The Sierra Leone Islamic Association (SLIA) Reading is a non-profit charitable organisation, that was set up on 20 December 2013 in Reading to promote the teachings of the Islamic Religion, facilitate gaining of Islamic Wisdom among Muslims and other faiths through the channel of the Holy Quran and Provide charitable and benevolent services for the relief of poverty and suffering in people who are in condition of need, hardship or in distress.
Aims and Objectives of SLIA
- To provide aid to orphans, the destitute, the needy, the homeless, mosques, schools and hospitals.
- To foster and promote the teaching of the Islamic Religion.
- To provide a space for members of our community to network, build friendships and collaborate in charitable activities.

How does it aim to achieve its objectives?
- Through raising funds, grants and donations
- Applying for funds to carry out work for the charity
- Co-operate with and support other charities with a similar purpose
- Facilitate gaining of Islamic Wisdom among Muslims and other faiths through the channel of the Holy Quran.
What has the organisation done?
- In the wake of the Ebola out break in Sierra Leone in 2014 donate money and items to organisations working on the ground in Sierra Leone
- Zakat(Religious Alms) from the Holly Month of Ramadan is sent to Sierra Leone to provide food for the poor and needy.
- Qurbani, our annual sacrifice is carried out in Sierra Leone so that needy communities and families can benefit.
What projects SLIA intends to carry out?
- Establishing an Islamic Centre
- The focus of this project is to buy a house or disuse warehouse and convert it to a multipurpose building that will serve as a mosque, a centre for cultural activities, rooms to teach the Quran and holding of meetings and seminars.
- Provide support and guidance for our children so that they become valuable members of our community, contributing the public good
- Increase our fundraising activities to enable us to reach out to and assist more people and organisations in Reading and Sierra Leone
